I am so excited to introduce a new blog series on Palm Beach Meets Manhattan, Behind the Brand! As a student studying retail, I wanted to start a series where I can introduce some of my favorite brands and the stories behind their businesses. As a long time customer and former associate, it only felt fitting to discuss Kendra Scott as the first brand in this new blog series.
I remember waiting outside my local Kendra Scott store on its opening day in May of 2015 with my dad (as this was before I was able to drive) so excited to see the store and make a purchase. Several years later, I ended up working at Kendra Scott one summer while I was home from college. I learned so much about the story behind Kendra Scott during my time as an associate and gained an appreciation for the founder, Kendra Scott, and her brand.
Kendra Scott, as a business, is based on three pillars that the founder stands by: family, fashion, and philanthropy. She was intentional in choosing these pillars directly from her life and ordering them by the importance they have to her.
Like myself, Kendra believes that family always comes first. At Kendra Scott you can feel the love and warmth the associates have for each other and for their customers, bringing this family atmosphere to life in and out of the store.
The second pillar is fashion, as the brand brings timeless and on-trend fashion to life through its designs and products. Kendra started the brand by making her jewelry by hand and selling it door to door to boutiques in Austin, Texas. She has kept some of these tried and true styles and design concepts as a part of her brand today.
The last pillar of the brand is philanthropy. Kendra Scott donates part of their annual proceeds to women’s and children’s causes. They also do a lot of on-site events at hospitals where they gift product and jewelry making experiences to patients and their families through their “Color Bar,” as well as in-store events where they partner to donate to local charities within their stores’ communities.
These pillars, and their importance in the brand, are what made my experiences both as a customer and associate of Kendra Scott so wonderful! With this in mind, I am excited to share a few of my tried and true Kendra Scott jewelry pieces as well as some items I am loving from their new spring collection.
My favorite simple statement earrings from Kendra Scott are the Diane earrings in gold filigree. The plain metal, mixed with the filigree Kendra Scott logo pattern, makes them easy to throw on with any outfit. They add some flair and make a huge statement. If you prefer a smaller earring, I would recommend Diane’s sister, the Didi earring, for the same look with less weight.
Another go-to piece of mine is my Kendra Scott charm bracelet. This piece is great as you are able to curate and collect the charms to match your style. I chose to put my charms on the gold Kendra Scott toggle bracelet for a sleek and shiny look. I have the initial charm in “M” for Mackenzie, a discontinued “Color Bar” charm with a rose quartz stone (similar linked), and a unicorn charm which is so special to me as my managers at Kendra Scott gifted it to me when I re-joined the team during my winter break following my summer working at the store. After perusing the Kendra Scott spring collection, I am loving the ring and pair of earrings that are inspired by the look of rattan. I mean, what could be more me?!
I hope you enjoyed reading about a brand near and dear to my heart. I would definitely recommend a visit to Kendra Scott (in-person or virtually) after this Behind the Brand post!
Sending sunshine your way!
XOXO,
Mackenzie
