I am so excited to share my second brand spotlight in my Behind the Brand series on Palm Beach Meets Manhattan. This week, I am spotlighting Drybar, a blow-dry bar that thrives on the idea that they focus on one thing and do it best, that being blowouts. As a girl with naturally thick, curly hair myself, I love a good blowout. Who doesn’t love feeling fresh and stylish after getting your hair styled at a salon, especially at Drybar?!
My first experience at a Drybar blow-dry bar was back in 2016 in Atlanta, Georgia. I was visiting colleges in the Southeast with my parents during spring break of my junior year of high school. My mom was in the middle of blowdrying her hair at our hotel when smoke started coming out of her blowdryer and it proceeded to die. The hotel blow dryer was just not going to cut it for two curly-haired girls in the middle of a road trip, so we took a visit to Drybar. After our first experience at Drybar on this trip, I was hooked.
It became a tradition of sorts that whenever we went on vacation and there was a Drybar in the area I would get a blowout, as there were not any Drybar blow-dry bars in South Florida until many years later. I love the Drybar blowout and experience that much. Additionally, I began to use several Drybar products, which are favorites of mine to this day. I also acquired a few Drybar hair tools along the way that I love!
A few of my favorite Drybar hair tools are the Drybar Buttercup Blow Dryer, the Double Shot Blow Dryer Brush, the Half Pint Round Brush, and the High Tops Rollers. As someone who has not mastered the at-home blow-dry, my personal favorite tool is the Double Shot Blow Dryer Brush. I chose to purchase this blow dryer brush because I knew it would make it possible for me to blow dry my own hair with ease, and I already owned the Drybar Buttercup Blow Dryer and loved it. Before I got the Double Shot, I never blow-dried my own hair, so this tool has been a game-changer for me and my thick, long, curly hair. As I mentioned, I have had the Buttercup Blow Dryer for a few years and think it’s great. I purchased it in a set that included the Half Pint Round Brush, which would be great for use on bangs or short hair, as well as the High Tops Rollers, which are easy to use to add volume when styling your blowout.
As for the Drybar hair products, I use the Prep Rally Prime and Prep Detangler, the Detox Dry Shampoo (in the original scent and formula), and the Triple Sec Finishing Spray religiously when I am blow drying my hair. I love that these products have not only amazing scents but are also effective. Honestly, if I was choosing hair products based on scent alone, I would still purchase these Drybar products. I find the scent of the Drybar blow-dry bars and products to be unmatched.
After I wash my hair, I use the Prep Rally Prime and Prep Detangler before combing my hair. I love that Prep Rally works not only as a detangler but also as a heat protectant for up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit, which is really important to help protect your hair before heat styling. After blow-drying my hair, if I want to add a little volume or texture, I spray Triple Sec (I use the Blanc scent) throughout the roots and mid-shaft of my hair. Lastly, as someone who has thick and long hair that takes a great effort to blow dry, I try to make my blowout last for several days. When I am starting to get a little greasy, I reach for my Detox Dry Shampoo. Personally, since my hair is a lighter color, I use the original formula of the Detox Dry Shampoo that leaves a white powdery sheen on the roots. I find that I prefer the results from the original formula in comparison to the Detox Dry Shampoo in the clear formula. If you are a brunette, you could use either the Detox Dry Shampoo in their brunette formula, or opt for the clear formula. In addition to the different formula types, Drybar offers many scents in the Detox Dry Shampoo. I use the original scent and love it, but you can opt for their lush scent or any of their seasonal scents if you prefer.
In addition to the great experiences I have had with Drybar blow-dry bars and their products, I really love the Drybar origin story. I read about it in The Drybar Guide to Good Hair for All book by Drybar founder, Alli Webb. Alli Webb is a stylist who, like myself, grew up in South Florida and has curly hair that she always wanted to be sleek and shiny. Alli Webb started Drybar as a mobile blowout business after seeing the necessity of the women in her community who like her had difficult hair and busy schedules. These women wanted to be able to get a simple blowout in the convenience of their homes, so as an experienced stylist Alli filled this gap in the market. Now, Drybar has blow-dry bars all across the country, as well as a full hair tool and product line. Drybar seeks to provide the premier blowout experience at their -blow-dry bars and provide clients with the products and tools to achieve these looks at home.
I hope you get to experience the premier Drybar blowout in their blow-dry bars, and at home with their products and tools, just like I have.
XOXO,
Mackenzie
